Sacred Heart Girls' College, Hamilton
Sacred Heart Girls College is a large Catholic School for girls, situated in the oldest suburb of Hamilton East, established by the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions, in 1884. The virtues of Faith, Hope and Justice focus our attention on how we live out the Charism and legacy of Euphrasie Barbier: we do this through Communion, Contemplation and Mission. We are fortunate to have the presence of her Sisters in our Community.
Sacred Heart is a college dedicated to the Sacred Heart, the symbol of the expression of the Father’s love for us in sending God’s only son so that we can know the Father’s compassionate love. Our missionary call and commitment is to live and make known that compassionate love of the Heart of Jesus and thus share in the mission of the Holy Spirit in bringing about God’s reign of justice, truth, peace and love.
At St John’s College the core values were laid out by Marcellin Champagnat who founded the College's original teaching order, the Marist Brothers. These core values are central to St John’s identity and underpin all that we do here. These are expressed in our five Pillars, Simplicity, In the Way of Mary, Love of Work, Family Spirit, and Presence.
This school served the needs of a growing Catholic community in Hamilton and surrounding rural towns, and was extended to be a Secondary School as the pupils grew. Our current Hillcrest Rd land was purchased in 1959 from the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions (who established Sacred Heart Girls' College).
The Marist College changed its name to St John's College in 1961, and we opened on our new Hillcrest Rd campus in February 1962. An initial roll of 240 young men from 3rd form to 7th form were taught by 6 Marist Brothers and 'lay' teachers.
Marian Catholic School is a thriving school in the heart of Hamilton East. Marian was established in 1989 following the amalgamation of St Mary's Cathedral School and Marist School, which had previously coexisted on adjoining sites.
Marian Catholic School recognizes and celebrates the founding charisms of the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions foundress, Euphrasie Barbier and the Marist Brothers founder, Marcellin Champagnat.
Marian Catholic School has developed their charism based on the message of the Gospel. We looked at the chrism of the Mission Sisters and Marist Brothers and joined them together to make our own Marian charism- LIVE CHRIST by being the voice, face and voice of JESUS. The four values we have chosen to live this charism are Love, Faith, Community and Mission.
